Bumper Repairs in Sevenoaks, Kent and the South | Located in Tunbridge Wells

Front or back, and in metal or plastic, the bumper is usually the first part of a car to pick up damage in the event of a collision. Scuffs, scratches and dents on a bumper can leave your otherwise perfect car looking a little rough around the edges. Hillary’s Coachworks can perform bumper repairs for any model of car, either classic, contemporary or modern, and across a full range of popular manufacturer marques.

Based in Tunbridge Wells, our workshop repairs bumpers for motorists in Crowborough, East Grinstead, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and all locations in Kent and Southern England.

We know exactly how it feels for you to damage any part of your car but with bumpers, there’s probably much less need to worry. This is because the bumper absorbs impact to protect other parts of the car. Modern bumpers usually have a foam backing that acts as a buffer. Even when hit at force, the bumper and foam combined significantly reduce the amount of damage caused to the front or back end of your car.

What will sometimes happen, particularly with plastic bumpers, is that the force of impact causes irreparable surface damage.

When we can’t perform bumper repairs using traditional working techniques, we replace them instead. Hillary’s Coachworks has a network of local suppliers who can deliver to us on the same day but, if working on a classic car with discontinued parts, we can arrange to have a bumper bespoke manufactured.

The Bumper Repair Process

Because our Tunbridge Wells workshop has a low-bake oven, we can offer fast turnarounds on bumper repairs and replacements. Motorists from the surrounding Crowborough, East Grinstead, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge areas with large-scale damage in need of repair can leave their vehicles with us and take advantage of a courtesy car, subject to qualification and availability.

In most cases, we begin the repair process by removing the bumper from your car. This means we can access the rear to force out any dents in the panel a little easier.

After cleaning and degreasing the bumper so we can see the whole of the damaged area, we perform the required work using innovative systems including plastic repair kits. Like the paintwork on other panels, bumper repairs require a three-stage refinishing process of primer, basecoat and clearcoat.

We refinish bumpers in a low-bake oven which reduces cutting and drying times to as little as 20 minutes.

Bumper Repairs on Classic and Contemporary Marques

Were you aware that the first commercially available cars didn’t have bumpers fitted? The bumper is an aftermarket innovation, added to protect pedestrians in the event of a collision and to keep repair costs down. Steel bumpers with a traditional aluminium or chrome finish later gave way to the plastic and fibreglass composites that we see on cars today.

We can perform bumper repairs in them all.

Motorists from Tunbridge Wells, and those in the surrounding Crowborough, East Grinstead, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge areas, can use us for bumper repairs with confidence knowing we have an ICI mixing scheme that allows for edge-to-edge colour matching, but with capabilities for blending should we ever come across a rare, unusual or difficult-to-match shade.

We are also skilled in accident repairs and car body repairs.
